Pool club docked points, paves way for cash pay-out

The UB had lodged a protest against Matsubutsubu for using players who were not eligible to play, which forced the cancellation of the BBC pool prize giving ceremony three months ago. The clubs have been complaining of the delays in receiving their prize monies.

The decision means UB leap over Matsubutsubu into second position while the accused drop to number three.

BBC spokesperson, Marang Morolong told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they found Matsubutsubu guilty after assessing all the evidence put before them. Matsubutsubu had won 17-8 in a clash played on June 10.  “The committee has decided to give the match to UB with a score line of 25-0 which is the maximum score. This, therefore affects the log as it has left UB on the second position,” Morolong said.

He said following their judgement, they have given the affected teams time to respond. The cash prizes are expected to be paid out this month with Acres assured of P10,000 after winning the league. UB will now pocked P5,000 while the winner between Botho and Matsubutsubu will get P2,500. The match is yet to be played. Meanwhile, Morolong urged teams around the country, which might be interested in affiliating with the BBC to ensure a bigger and improved league next season.

He said they will try and improve on the first season’s teething problems. “We managed to affiliate with All Africa Pool Association which governs cue sport in Africa. This will give us opportunities to participate in international tournaments,” he said.
