Basson is no stranger to the courts

According to the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), Basson and one Kamogelo Kaote were recently arraigned before the Maun Magistrate Court charged with two counts of forgery and uttering a false document.

“Investigations conducted by the DCEC revealed that the accused persons on July 11, 2013 in Maun acting jointly and in concert, forged a Botswana Bureau of Standards inspection report which had been issued to Linefeeds (Pty) Ltd and which had failed the inspection.

The accused persons went on to present it to the Chobe District Council purporting it to be a genuine BOBS inspection report issued to Linefeeds (Pty) Ltd,” reads the statement.

Basson and Kaote pleaded not guilty and will appear before court on October 20, 2017. Pascal Mhandu of the Directorate on Public Prosecutions (DPP) appeared for the state, while Charles Tlagae of Charles Tlagae Attorneys represented the accused.

Basson, the self-proclaimed first female of hip hop was in January arrested and detained by police in another fraud case. In that case, she was arrested for allegedly swindling six individuals of P223,800 in a deal to sell a 10-hectare commercial plot in Oodi.

Basson, who broke into the entertainment limelight with the now defunct hip hop group P-Side, was again before the courts in 2014, when Cresta Lodge claimed she had used their services, but failed to pay.

In 2011, Basson was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London for allegedly possessing dagga valued at P248,000.

The news became public when she was remanded at the Halloway Female Prison after failing to raise the bail money.
