Patron killed for refusing to leave bar

Letlhakane police station commander, Michael Maphephu said the incident at Mmatshumu village occurred during a misunderstanding between the patron and the depot owner.

“It is alleged that the deceased refused to obey the order to leave and instead began hurling insults at the depot owner,” Maphephu said.

“This then angered the brother who stabbed the deceased using a sharp object during the fight.

“The deceased managed to go home, but was found dead the following day by relatives. We suspect that he died after losing too much blood.”

Maphephu said a suspect has been arrested and will make an first appearance in court this week.

Meanwhile, Maphephu revealed that the police have made a breakthrough in the spate of thefts of electronic devices in the village. He said a 22-year-old has been arrested in possession of a trove of stolen equipment.

“We found him in possession of seven laptops, three flat screen television sets, and cell phones amongst other assorted electronic gadgets. He further told us that he had already sold some of the stolen properties to people from as far as Maun,” said Maphephu.

Police have also arrested those who bought some of the stolen property.

“Time and again ,we always advise people to desist from buying stolen goods as that’s a criminal offence, but they always turn a deaf ear.

“If we find anyone in possession of suspected stolen goods, they too are criminally liable and if found guilty may be sent to a jail term not exceeding three years.”
