Mpho was the opening act of the event, with Zahara being the main act.

Mpho opened the event in stylish manner, as he came through on a motorbike with his saxophonist complementing him with some rhythm and blues sound. The artist then went on stage where he delivered a performance full of energy with his all men band.

Mpho performed a number of songs from his albums African Sunset and Theong, which saw him deliver songs such as Moratiwa, Soul heaven, Sponono and Theong.

Many within the audience had undermined Mpho, but with his energetic performance accompanied with creativity, he won many people’s hearts. The connection between him and his band gave the best of entertainment.

After Mpho’s performance, the main act, Zahara kept the audience on their feet from the moment she got on stage till the last second of her performance.

She stepped on the stage singing Lizalise Idinga Lakho, an emotional Xhosa gospel song that touched people’s emotions, which made them to get glued to her and sing along. She played another emotional song Umthwalo Wami, which had the artist crying on stage as she sang.

While all the attention was on her, she raised the tempo as she took her guitar to jam her old tracks such as Incwad’encane, Xa Bendingena Mama and Loliwe. It was a party where everyone sang along.

She went on to perform songs from her new album Mgodi, such as Ina Mvula, Themba Lam and Mgodi.

As a way of celebrating one of her heroes, Brenda Fassie she jammed Ma Bree’s Promises and Vulindlela, as she took people down the memory lane and went down the stage to be closer to the revellers. As the main act, she successfully took charge of the event. She enjoyed every moment on the stage and interacted with the audience as she expressed her gratitude for making her album go platinum in 20 hours of release.

Mpho and Zahara join the list of local and international artists such as ATI, Lizibo, Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Oliver Mtukudzi and Franco who have performed at this year’s Mascom Live Sessions.

The last session of the year is scheduled for December.
