The BMD will hold both youth and mother body congress on December 3.

“It is true, the BMD National Executive Committee (NEC) met and made a resolution on the matter on Saturday at Mochudi. Of course, we might not like the decision of the UDC, but the BMD remains a member of UDC and is forced to abide by the decision and the constitution of it. We cannot have two separate congresses, as it would be expensive for the party. Therefore, both youth and party congress will be held in December at Lobatse. The party needs around P2.5 million to hold the congress,” BMD spokesperson Rasina Rasina said.

The party spokesperson said his party does appreciate the fact that it is the first time for the UDC to experience the situation it finds itself in.

He said the UDC was bound to make minor mistakes, but the bigger picture remains what the nation would want to hear.

Rasina said currently the BMD chairperson, Nehemiah Modubule, as per party constitution, assumes both roles of the presidency and the chairpersonship until the congress is held.

Rasina confirmed that the BMD president, Sidney Pilane has resigned from the presidency.

He continued; “we have abided by all the requirements of UDC. We will announce the names of four people who will represent us at UDC NEC meetings so as to prepare for the congress”.

However The Monitor has learnt that the congress on the floor would nominate Pilane’s name for party’s presidency and that’s how he (Pilane) might make a comeback as president of the BMD.

Last week, Pilane made an announcement that he has stepped down and will not contest the party presidency.

The UDC president, Duma Boko said; “Our ruling on the matter has been clear that the events and environment at Bobonong BMD congress was not conducive for free and fair elections to be held. Therefore, BMD leadership is not legitimate”.

He said the BMD should make an interim committee and send four names to UDC, which will help the party to organise for the congress that would be held before UDC launch.

He emphasised that the BMD is still a member of the UDC and it remains so. “It has not been suspended or expelled. We do not have problems with the BMD, but we want certain things to be done properly,” he said.
