The battle has reportedly left 16 of their squad players in the lurch. The players’ contracts face termination and others none renewals. According to a source close to the club, two committees; one made up of employees of Botswana Soda Ash mine, which is the parent sponsor of the club, and the other made of non-mine workers at the mining town are at loggerheads over the leadership of the club. The non-mine workers are said to be against the miners’ “scheme” of occupying all top positions in the executive committee and the melee led to the aborted elective annual general meeting (AGM) last week. The source said the problems that have engulfed the club are caused by personal vendetta against the former chairperson. “They have personal problems with the former chairman that the community (none miners) don’t know of and they (miners) want to erase all that he was trying to build, but at the expense of the team.”

The source said the miners committee has gone to an extent of not renewing contracts of the players who the former chairperson had signed and they are replacing them without communication.

“About 16 players are left in the dark about their future with the club including Bonolo Fraiser.” He said the other burning issue is that of the formation of an interim committee at the AGM, yet only the chairperson from the outgoing committee had resigned from his position. “We heard the sponsor has directed some people to form

an interim committee, but what bothers the people is how will they know of that directive when they were not informed in advance of any changes of that sort.” The interim committee chairperson, Rebagamang Sekgekge refuted all the allegations and said the team is together and everyone is calm. “I am not aware of any power struggles or anything of that sort,” he said. “Everyone is calm at the club and we are busy doing our homework.” He said the AGM could not go ahead because registered members did not form a quorum. He said most of the members who attended the AGM were not subscribing members and as per the requirements of the constitution, they were not eligible to vote. “The constitution is our bible. We had about 11 subscribing members who turned up and as thus we took a resolution that we cannot go ahead with electing the new leadership.

“We have decided that another date for the AGM be set, but only after engaging with all eligible members and ensuring they will be available.” He admitted most of the subscribing members are from the mine while the others have long stopped subscriptions and the issue was disregarded. He said that could not be an excuse to overlook the constitution.
