On arrival at the crime scene, The Monitor team found the corpse of the 33-year-old woman from Nkange, still in a big bag wrapped with a blanket.

Her cell phone, wedding ring, spectacles, toiletry bag, ATM cards, Identity Card, her underwear and some of her blood-soaked clothes were recovered inside the bag. The police also discovered 15 used male condoms and two unused female condoms.

According to Tlokweng police station commander, Superintendent Robson Maleka they received the report from a passerby who was walking from his cattle post heading to Tlokweng when he saw a big bag dumped in the bush.

“He said that on Thursday when coming from Tlokweng walking to his cattle post he saw the bag a distance from where he was passing but just thought it was garbage dumped in the bush.

He said that the following day when passing there again out of curiosity he decided to check what exactly the bag contained and the decomposed odour could be smelt from a distance and contacted the police,” Maleka said. Maleka said that on arrival they were shocked to retrieve a woman’s badly decomposed body wrapped with a blanket inside the bag.

“We do not know what exactly happened but investigations into the matter are ongoing. She might have been strangled to death because we found a black tie around her neck hence suspecting that she might have been choked to death,” Maleka said.

He said that they suspect the deceased might have been killed somewhere else and dumped in the bush because there were car tyre marks near where she was abandoned.  Maleka said that they suspect that the deceased might have been sexually abused because they discovered more than 15 used condoms inside the bag.

“We found her body already decomposed. We suspect that she might have been dumped on Wednesday night looking at the state of her body.

The deceased’s names are still withheld until we have notified all of her family members but we have established that she originates from Nkange village. She was residing at Broadhurst Extension 27 in Gaborone,” Maleka said. Maleka said that they have established that the deceased’s husband is staying and working in Orapa, but it is alleged that she had a known boyfriend whom they were always seen together.

“We managed to contact her husband but still looking for her alleged boyfriend to help us with investigations. We have learnt that the duo (deceased and her boyfriend) were seen together few days ago,” Maleka said.
