Six youths stab police officer to death

The Botswana Police Service (BPS) public relations officer Dipheko Motube confirmed that they are investigating a case in which one of their officers was murdered. “We had positive progress after the incident because later on that night we managed to arrest six suspects who executed the robbery and they are currently in police custody.

The incident occurred around 12:45pm,” Motube said.

He said that the suspects are aged between 23 and 28 years. He said two are from Thamaga while the other four are from Moshupa.

Motube revealed that the deceased, aged 43, was a sergeant stationed at Sir Seretse Khama Airport police station. “The police officer was attacked by the suspects when trying to board his car coming from a recreational facility in Block 8.

When he confronted the robbers the deceased was stabbed to death with something sharp,” Motube said.

Motube said that the police retrieved some of the deceased’s items that the suspects were in possession of. However, there are contradicting reports that the deceased was trying to reconcile fighting revellers when he got stabbed with a knife.
