Molebatsi primary school adopt a school initiative bears fruits

Molebatsi primary in Majwaneng was adopted by Security Systems, a leading security services provider in 2012, and since then the school has excelled in the 2016 primary school leavers examinations (PSLE).

Though there was a slight drop in the 2015, the school managed to obtaining 80% overall pass rate in 2016 in the grade A to C. Pupils who passed with grade A were 10, grade B were six while those who got grade C were 26.

Back in 2013, the school overall Standard 7 pass rate of grades A-C was 66.1% with 62 candidates, and in 2015, 55 Standard 7 candidates set for examinations, with an overall pass rate of 69% for grades A-C.

In 2015, 61 Standard 7 pupils set for examinations and the school got a pass rate of 85% for grades A-C. The school was then awarded the best performing school in the Palapye region in 2016 after scooping position 9 in the top 10 of the 37 Palapye sub-region primary schools. 

Not only has Molebatsi pupils performed well academically over the past three years, but also it did well in the extra curricular, especially in the Palapye ICT challenge in 2015.

Again 2016, Molebatsi primary was invited again to the Botswana Information, Communication and Technology Association Fair to participate in the national competitions.

The school had prepared to compete in the multi media, social media, web page, graphics and quiz. Hosted by Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and PATECO, Molebatsi scooped position two in the Social media led by Maatla Arabang, while Mosa Kedikilwe, Violet Baile and again Maatla Arabang got position two in the ICT quiz category. The school then wrapped the championship with position two in the Web page design, to the abilities of Mosa Kedikilwe, Violet Baile and Atang Selelo.

In July this year, the school was invited to the Palapye ICT elimination challenge held at Palapye secondary school and upon performing exceptionally well; they were invited to participate in the ICT fair held in Molepolole recently.

Six learners participated in the dimension graphics, quiz, social media and programming. In all the categories respectively, the scooped positions one and two overall and were awarded with certificates and trophies.

After Security Systems adopted the school in 2012, the school results started to improve academically and in the extra curricular component.

The company aided with the facilitation of allowances for Teacher aides, non teaching staff and security,” Seamogano Kane, the school headteacher.

Kane said, it is through the support and motivation that they getting from Security Systems that they are able to achieve the unachievable hence their motto “Together we attain higher the highest”.

“Parents and teachers are all motivated, and every year pupils receive awards during the school prize-giving ceremonies, and many thanks to Security Systems Managing Director (MD), Gabriel Nkgetse and his management team,” Kane said.

For his part, Nkgetse said his company would continue to support the government in the Adopt-a-School initiative, not only at Majwaneng where Molebatsi School is located, but also in other localities around the country.

“We are excited about the school’s performance and it clearly shows that our support to the school is bearing fruits,” Nkgetse said.
