“We are praying that the league start delays by a week. I still have work to do on our attack. We have this coming week to finalise it,” Mabena said.

He said he is happy with the response and attitude shown by his players. “The approach was to use my best team against BDF XI and other players in the second game. Winning the tournament will boost the players, psychologically,” he said.

For his part, Security Systems coach, Thaloba Nthaga said the tournament gave them a chance to assess and understand the playing style of their opponents.

“We still have some work to do defensively before the league starts, but generally I am happy with the response I am getting from my players.” Nthaga revealed that he has signed five new players to beef up his squad. “As far as beefing my squad, I have brought all the needed reinforcements.  This is the team I will be using. There will be no more additions,” he said. 

In the losers final, Orapa United beat BDF XI 2-1 courtesy of goals from Baboloki Makhura and Onkabetse Makgantai while Botsalo Oatlhotse scored for BDF.Tournament organiser, Diphetogo Selolwane said the purpose of the tournament was to give teams a chance to prepare for the upcoming season.

“Through my travels in the world, I got to appreciate the need for teams to be prepared ahead of league season hence this tournament,” he said.
