Yesterday, Modubule told the media that he can only become party president if party members say so. Modubule doubles up as the BMD president following the resignation of Sidney Pilane last week.

Four people who will represent BMD in the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) include Tlamelo Mmatli, Gilbert Mangole, Percy Bakwena and Modubule.

This came after the UDC made a ruling that they did not recognise the BMD national executive committee because of the circumstances that prevailed at the party’s congress held at Matshekge Hill School in Bobonong in July.

“Our constitution allows members to be nominated from the floor. Currently, we don’t know what exactly will happen because the time we have is very limited.

'Some leaders of BMD will soon start touring the country to start organising for constituency congresses to vote for delegates. The existing committee is the one which was voted in at the Gantsi congress because the UDC had said that our outgoing committee is not legitimate. That is the reason why our former president, Sidney Pilane has resigned,” Modubule said. He said at Bobonong, 47 constituencies out of 57 had registered and brought delegates.

He continued; “I want to assure people that the BMD is not dead as others say. Our members have not gone to the new party, the Alliance for Progressives (AP). We have time to build our party without being disturbed by anyone. What we want for our party is peace”.  However, Mmegi has learnt that a decision has been made that the delegates nominate Pilane’s name for presidency at the upcoming congress. Pilane resigned from the BMD presidency after the UDC annulled and invalidated the Matshekge congress which gave him the presidency resulting in the party splitting, which resulted in the formation of the AP led by Ndaba Gaolathe.  In other issues, Modubule said he is not impressed that they have long reported an assault case against some members of AP but there is no progress in the case.  “The police are failing to update us on the matter till today,” he said.

Efforts to get comment from central police station commander, Vincent Pitsietsile were not successful as he was not answering his mobile phone at the time of going to press.
