Speaking during a press conference to welcome Duncan Enga and Vepaune Moreti into BCP, Boko said: “I have never had doubts about Saleshando’s qualities”.

Boko said him being the president of UDC does not mean that he is better than Saleshando. “I just happen to be first among equals.” However, he reiterated that by acknowledging Saleshando’s abilities should not be construed as comparing Saleshando to anyone else. Earlier on Saleshando had reminded the gathering that there is only one president of UDC, Boko.

Asked if the UDC does not want Alliance for Progressives (AP) to join if they want to be successful in 2019, Boko responded academically. “We need everyone not just the AP. We need everyone to support us”.

Further, Boko explained that change of government is still coming in 2019 under the UDC government.

He said those who are spreading rumours that UDC is dying are a ‘dishonest’ bunch wanting to deceive Batswana.

“To those writing an obituary of UDC, I say you have seen nothing as yet.” Boko further said Batswana’s lives would be worse when Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi assumes the presidency on March 31, 2018 saying the economy would continue to slump while poverty and unemployment would escalate.

Boko reaffirmed the UDC’s commitment to create 100,000 jobs when they assume government.

For his part Saleshando said the UDC will return the war to BDP by continuing to recruit from its cadres. Saleshando claimed that more BDP members are willing to join the opposition parties. He said the BCP welcomes Enga and Moreti with open hands given their political experience and pedigree. Enga, North West District Council chairperson and Moreti, Maun Administrative Authority deputy chairperson joined the BCP after they were dismissed by the BDP in June.

He revealed that the duo is free to contest for positions within the BCP including standing for elections.

“The race for 2019 has just started. As the UDC we say let the best party win that race. We believe that  as the UDC we are the best party to win that race.” Saleshando lampooned Masisi by saying that judging from Masisi’s ‘noise’ about catching on opposition members, one would think the BDP is not losing members to the opposition. He labelled Masisi a ‘denialist’ who wants to create an impression that it is one way traffic to the BDP.

For their part Moreti and Enga vowed that more BDP members are following them to BCP. Enga promised to serve BCP with all his capabilities. Moreti explained that his electorates suggested that he join the BCP after he was dismissed by BDP. Meanwhile, during a star rally in the afternoon in Maun East, Boko and Saleshando welcomed 48 new members into the BCP.
