Murder incidents worry Mogoditshane police

Mogoditshane police station commander, Superintendent Agreement Mapeu said the said petty issues that always lead to deaths include arguments during beer drinking, fights over money and arguments of partners in love relationships.

He revealed that they are currently investigating three cases of murder in his policing area in which all of them was a result of arguments that could have been avoided.

He said they are currently investigating a case in which a 31-year-old woman stabbed her 32-year-old lover to death with a knife at Senthumole ward in Mogoditshane on Sunday.

Mapeu stated that the police received the report around 12 noon informing them about an incident in which a woman was reported to have stabbed his boyfriend whom they were staying together to death with a knife.

“Our investigations have revealed that the woman found her boyfriend entertaining another woman in their house and she took out the knife and stabbed him to death,” Mapeu said.

He also disclosed to be investigating yet another murder incident that occurred early Sunday morning at Matebeleng ward in Mogoditshane in which an 18-year-old man of Mosolotshane was also stabbed to death.

He said the police have arrested three men aged between 24 and 30 who are currently in police custody helping them with investigations.

“It is alleged that the trio, including the deceased, were involved in a misunderstanding near a certain bar that resulted in one of them being stabbed to death with a knife. Investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish what really happened that fateful day,” Mapeu said.

Mapeu also revealed to be investigating yet another murder case that occurred at Smodern ward in Mogoditshane on October 30 in which four young men are in police custody investigated for the death of their 31-year-old friend.

He said the men were seen entertaining themselves at a bar in Gaborone West earlier that fateful night.

“It is alleged that from Gaborone West, the men visited one of their friends in Mogoditshane and accused the deceased from Molepolole of stealing their money. They claimed that the deceased stole their P4,000 and assaulted him to death,” he said.

Mapeu said over the past months, they have been conducting awareness campaigns urging people to respect the sanctity of life and avoid settling disputes through violent means.

“I am calling upon members of the community to involve a third party, the police, Dikgosi or leaders when having misunderstandings and avoid unnecessary fights that usually lead to deaths,” Mapeu pleaded.
