Speaking during Team Fire’s manifesto launch in Gaborone on Monday, Molelo said if elected, their intention is to focus more on students with disability.

He said learners with disabilities deserve to be treated fairly when it comes to sport, arguing the current set-up does not cater for such students.

“We have a number of schools across the zones that have learners with disabilities. In the north zone, I can mention Tashata JSS, South Central, Lentswe JSS, while in the south zone, we have Ramotswa JSS.

These learners have been catered for in their respective schools’ sports budget, but we rob them the opportunity to participate in sports which is why me and my team want to change that,” Molelo said.

He said to achieve this, they are going to create a portfolio for a coordinator of sports for learners with disabilities who will be someone from schools with learners with disabilities.

“The coordinator will form part of the administration body and will closely work with Special Olympics and Paralympics Associations as well as the University of Botswana Physical Education Department,” he added.

Team Fire’s candidates list has Molelo (president), Joy Kenosi (vice president-technical), Harold Mosomane (secretary general), Boago Obonetse (vice secretary general), Daniel Tshume (treasurer) and Mmoloki Gaobone as the publicity secretary. Despite the fact that the team is made up of all male candidates, Molelo said if voted into power they will try to set up an advocacy structure that will be tasked with a mandate to provide insight and understanding of the continued absence of women from leadership roles in Botswana sport, precisely in BISA.

“It is not by design that our team does not have a female candidate. It is just that we believe in what people want because our team was constituted by senior sport teachers, we consulted,” he added. He said they would form a subcommittee, Women and Girls in Sport, to be led by women and would form part of the executive.
