Kabelo still moping over Charma Gal in new DVD

The DVD has eight tracks and includes the group’s 10th anniversary celebration clip. The front DVD cover shows a picture of the founder and lead singer of the group, Kabelo Mogwe riding a donkey and an old walking boot (rifi) written Kulenyane. The DVD starts with the group’s recent controversial song Tonkana, which Mogwe released after his divorce with Charma Gal was finalised.

Tonkana was released not long after Charma Gal released Sekuta. The video portrays good quality pictures and audio. In the video, Tonkana clearly shows that Mogwe is still not over his ex-wife something that he has not hidden to the public since the divorce.

The video was showing a young woman dressing like Charma Gal in her Sekuta video, that is a black leather jacket and black leggings. When the song started, a man in a motorbike snatched the young woman who was seated amongst a group of elders.

Later Mogwe is seen riding a donkey and asking the same elders where the women went. It later shows him taking a bow and arrow ready to fight for his lover. His efforts to catch the motorbike with a donkey ran futile, as he never did.

The other song that can catch the audience’s eye is Mmabolekane, a song in which a young man pleads with his father to give him blessings on marrying a particular young woman. The father was reluctant to give the couple his blessings until the couple opted to seek blessings from the mother who welcomed the daughter in law with open arms.

It also has Jibi jibi, a song that was released last year. Jibi jibi is a Setapa song that carries a strong message.

The new DVD also includes songs such as Kokomochane, Segarona Part 1, a song that talks about Setswana culture, Re a itsamaela, Dumelang an infusion of traditional and gospel song where Culture Spears collaborates with South African gospel artist Trica Selala and Moporofiti (a song that tells a story about a prophet).

All the songs in the DVD are well organised and their scenes compliment the songs. As it is a norm with this traditional group, all its songs give a certain message which the listeners can relate to. Most of the songs were short in a traditional Setswana home set up showcasing true Botswana rural lifestyles. Some of the songs also showcase the beautiful natural resources such as flowing rivers, vegetation and others.
