Police nab fourth suspect in foiled Thornhill Primary robbery

The suspect had fled the scene when members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) foiled a planned robbery and arrested the other three suspects.

Crime intelligence director at CID, Nunu Lesetedi yesterday confirmed that they foiled an attempted robbery incident. He said they have since arrested all the four suspects who were using a Honda Fit as a drive-away car.

He said when they arrested the other three suspects, the other one tried to slip and evade the police. It is alleged that the police exchanged shots with the suspects.

“We arrested four people in connection with a planned robbery around Thornhill. They tried to run away in a Honda Fit. All the four suspects are Batswana men aged between 21 and 26. We have launched an investigation,” said Lesetedi.

Lesetedi denied that there was an exchange of fire with the police.

“We had to fire warning shots before we arrested them. There was no exchange,” he added.

He could not tell whether the suspects were armed.

Yesterday, when Mmegi talked to Lesetedi, the suspects were yet to appear in court as he said they were still investigating the matter.

In recent weeks, the police have been hard at work making numerous successful arrests of suspected criminals and foiling planned robberies.
