Poking trouble: Fencing is at loggerheads with the BNSC

Robust, Sir Seretse Khama, Metsimasweu, Boipelego Junior Secondary Schools and North Rise fencing clubs agreed to remove the executive from office. The matter has now reached the BAFS and BNSC legal teams. The Commission threw the first jab, stating in a letter that it will only entertain communication from BAFS and not individuals with seemingly ultra motives.

“This serves to request you to refrain from insinuating unconfirmed statements about the current BAFS executive committee,” reads part of the letter from the BNSC.

The concerned clubs moved to hold elections last weekend and a new committee was elected. Former president, Gaolathwe Mudongo has been elected back into office, after the clubs decided to ignore his former position.

The elections were held ignoring a letter from BNSC stating that the Commission had decided to embark on an enquiry into the mess at BAFS.

“....that there exists reasonable grounds that a BAFS has committed irregularity in the conduct of its affairs, contravened or breached standards of good governance of the association,” reads part of the letter written by Mareko Basupang on behalf of BNSC chief executive officer, Falcon Sedimo.

The letter advised that elections should not be held until the enquiry has been completed.

In the letter written to BNSC by BAFS attorneys, the Commission was advised that the BNSC Act does not in anyway suspend the activities of BAFS including holding of elections.

Contacted for comment, Mudongo said the enquiry is being done in bad faith. He told Mmegi Sport that the BNSC is conflicted because they have already taken sides. He said the special general meeting that they held was done according to the BAFS constitution. “They have threatened us with disciplinary action. They can proceed with it; we are waiting. We have long asked them to intervene, but now they are interfering. We cannot be expected to fold our arms and let people destroy our sport,” he said.

Mudongo said it is also surprising that the BNSC has taken over the responses instead of the previous committee. The concerned clubs are represented by Ramalepa Attorneys while Mphakwane and Partners are for BNSC.

The new BAFS committee: vice president (vice president), Themba Ngurunyoka Tebogo Mokwena (secretary general), Special Ramatudung (treasurer), Thabologo Nageng (public relations officer), Additional members (Master Tobetsa, Warona Lekoko, Michael Majingo.)
