While not disclosing the names of the suspect, the Ramotswa police station commander, Superintendent Keoagile Tau told Mmegi that the person they suspect to have caused the fatal accident which killed a man and a woman, will soon appear before court.

“I cannot at this point disclose the person we are suspecting to have caused the accident. Court is the one that will charge that person therefore that information will be only revealed at court,” Tau said.

Tau said the police managed to take a statement from one witness of the accident.

“Investigations on the matter are ongoing. We are yet take statements from other two witnesses and thereafter we will be ready to register the case before court,” Tau said.

Mmegi is reliably informed that the driver of the Honda Fit that collided with the motorcycle is the suspect in the matter.

The two motorcyclists lost their lives on the night of July 29 after their motorcycle collided with the Fit near the South East District landfill.

One of the deceased, Phenyo ‘Kiko’ Venson, is the nephew of the Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi.

He was working as an events coordinator at Hotwire Public Relations Agency. His companion was Shalom ‘Shaznana’ Moeti.

Tau raised concerns over the rate of road accidents that continue to claim people’s lives, pleading with motorists to be cautious on the road and to obey the road signs at all times.

“The accident occurred by the curve near the landfill where we had expected the drivers to have been cautious and hence reduced speed,” Tau said.

He stated that they have observed excessive speeding on the road, which usually is behind the cause of most of fatal accidents.

He also cautioned drivers to be alert along A1 road, especially towards Boatle because the road is currently under construction.
