Masisi in food poison scare

Recently, allies close to Masisi said the VP was taking extra-ordinary measures to avoid poisoning, a plot he believes is afoot amongst his political enemies. “When he travels locally, His Honour carries prepared food tightly wrapped in containers.
“If his schedule takes him away from Gaborone for two days, for instance, he makes sure his home-prepared food is sufficient for that period.
He doesn’t consume the hotel food where he will be lodging,” one associate whispered.
Masisi’s fears are said to stem from an incident last year, which government publicised as “an illness”. Shortly before May Day last year, Masisi was admitted at a private South African hospital with an undisclosed ailment.
“His Honour is making good progress and is expected to be discharged soon, whereupon he will resume his normal duties,” government spokesperson Jeff Ramsay said at the time. Masisi was discharged two weeks later and Mmegi is informed that the illness was a case of food poisoning.
The Moshupa Member of Parliament is said to have read sinister schemes in the incident and began tightening his food protocols.
“He doesn’t want to take chances,” the ally insisted. Masisi’s paranoia about his political enemies was also reportedly triggered after the Moshupa-Manyana legislator narrowly missed a Botswana Defence Force scheduled flight, which later crashed in Tsabong, killing three passengers.
The President-to-be is reportedly anxious of plots to prevent him from climbing to the country’s highest office next April.
Two weeks of efforts to reach Masisi drew a blank. Questions sent to his private secretary, Masego Mosate and Ramsay were not responded to.
The two had promised to respond to emailed questions a fortnight ago.
