Hotties Soccer Tournament is scheduled for August 26 at Gaborone Club

The tournament, an annual event that has been taking place since 2009, is scheduled for Gaborone Club. It provides a platform for women to interact on different issues, play soccer and also celebrate through entertainment.

The event, as a tradition, will have women five aside teams competing against each other, and many other activities such as musical performances.

“This year we will have 16 teams participating, some have already registered. We want to put women together so they can interact, share different experiences and have fun with the five-aside tournament, which is also meant for them. This is why our theme is ‘All things women’,” said event coordinator Ndiye Mahube.

Apart from the five aside tournament, which is the main attraction, there will be other activities such as zumba, musical performances and a play station for youngsters.

Most of these activities will be taking place in-between the matches that are scheduled to start in the morning till evening.

The winning team is set to walk away with P5,000, while the runners up get P3,000.

“After the tournament there will be an after party as we celebrate women. There will be a line up of local and international acts perfoming. This will be a moment for people to seat, relax, interact and have fun.”

Part of the performance line up include female disc jockeys such as Miss Kells, Kutlwi, Lady K and a number of male disc jockeys.

Mahube emphasised that with the event celebrating women, it does not necessarily mean that men are not invited. She said they are welcome to show their support to women. Over the years, the event has been a favourite to many urbanites.

“Although it is not the main purpose of the tournament, we seek to help small and youth-owned businesses through displays.

As an initiative championed by the youth, we believe that this tournament also offers organisations an opportunity to engage in corporate social responsibility by investing in a youth pioneered project,  thus helping to alleviate youth unemployment.”

f executive members at the club have tendered their resignations.

“We have only lost one player, Moathusi Bakwadi, a very good player who has a bright future. But we have not received any resignations.

We are focusing on a tournament we are hosting in February. As a committee, we are looking to promote our club and our events,” Ramahobo said.
