“We have been trying to bring Hotstix to perform at the Mascom Live Sessions for a very long time, but due to logistics and bookings clashing it was always a flop but this time around we managed to book him to come and perform at this month’s session,” said Robin ‘Robbie Rob’ Chivazve one of the event promoters.

He also noted that this is an event to pay tribute to the late legend Ray Phiri who passed away recently. He said Hotstix was a friend to Phiri and it would be proper for him to be the main act of the event.

The 65-year-old jazz maestro is expected to belt out his classic songs such as Burn Out, Jive Soweto and other yesteryear hits when he  performs at the Mascom Live Sessions. This will be Hotstix’s first appearance in the country this year after performing last year at another event.

Local rapper and pop artist ATI, who will be the opening act of the night, will be the supporting act for the jazz virtuoso. “ATI is one of the hottest artists at the moment.

He is hot. He is the main man; that’s why we selected him to open for Hotstix despite the age and generation difference. There is always a case of the old wanting to work with the young and the young wanting to work with the old. Let’s hope they get to work together and create magic,” Robbie Rob said.

ATI who is currently trending with his hit track Khiring Khiring Khorong Khorong said it was only inevitable and the right thing to do for him to be featuring at the event since he is making good music. He however stated that he is not familiar with Hotstix’s craft but he respects him as an artist.

The coming Mascom Live Session event is staged after being absent for a number of months with the promoters stating that they had to put it on pause due to the winter season. The previous act at the event was Selaelo Selota.
