In a series of Parliamentary questions last Friday, Nkaigwa demanded to know the amount of government projects that have been awarded to Estate Construction, Bothakga Burrow, Cul de Sac and Bango Trading from 2007 to date.

On behalf of his boss, the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services Itumeleng Moipisi revealed that Estate Construction was awarded contract works for construction of water supply pipelines at Thune Dam at a contract value of P361,551,490.41 and later awarded the construction of Kanye Waste Water Treatment Plant at the value of P707,046,930.32.

The minister said the total value of the contract was worth P1, 068, 598, 420.74.

As for Bango Trading, the minister said it got into a joint venture with UNIK Construction for Seronga-Gudigwa water supply project at the sum of P137,911,026.88.

Bothakga Burrow consultants were awarded a total of P255,253,216.14 for several projects during the same period.

Amongst the tenders, the company was awarded for Design, Supply and Build of Maun Water Supply project; Design and Supervision of Shakawe Water Treatment plant.

Bothakga Burrow was also awarded the construction of Infrastructure at Palapye Extension 11-Dibokwe. It was further awarded a Design, Pre-Contract Services Supervision and Post-Contract Services for construction of the Kgatleng Infrastructure.

“Cul de Sac was awarded Hukuntsi Minimal Servicing Project at P5,417,818.56. The project could not start and was eventually terminated,” the assistant minister said.

The same question was extended to the Ministry Local Government and Rural Development. In her response, assistant Minister Botlogile Tshireletso revealed that Estate Construction Botswana was engaged by four district councils for various projects valued at P298,606,326 since 2007 to date.

She said that three district councils have engaged Bango Trading (Pty) Ltd at a total of P6,448,196.96 for various projects.

Bothakga Burrow has enjoyed various consulting jobs at a total of P43,186,012.17 from seven local authorities.

On the other hand, Cul de Sac got a total of P15,729,294.56 from two local authorities amongst the jobs for the Backlog Eradication Project Package D for construction of two blocks (three-storey); and proposed teachers flats in Block 8.

The Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security was also not spared the question, but the minister was not available in Parliament to provide answers. Efforts to get Nkaigwa to explain the rational behind the questions were futile at time of going to press as he did not take our numerous calls.
