Some curious members of BNF members demand update on UDC developments

The members want Boko to update them after every meeting and to postpone tomorrow’s meeting. Some of the central committee members who signed the petition include his vice, Prince Dibeela and six others.

The BNF Central Committee  is made up of 19 members and for a petition to carry more weight it must be signed by 50% of the members of the committee.

Boko and his secretary general (SG), Moeti Mohwasa received the petition last week.

“The members feel that the president has failed several times to update central committee members on the decisions that are taken by UDC. BNF central committee is always in the dark about certain decisions that are taken by UDC while it’s an affiliate to UDC.

Certain decisions cannot be taken on behalf of the party while its mother body, which is central committee, is not aware of. The Central Committee must account to members,” a source said.

The source said Boko and the SG should always inform the motherbody after UDC national executive committee decisions, which at times force all affiliates to act.

“The central committee was not even briefed on the decision taken against Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD). Again members complain that Boko does not attend certain central committee meetings and he would claim that he is busy with UDC issues,” the source added.

However, Dibeela denied knowledge of any petition saying he arrived in the country a few days ago from a trip abroad.

“You are asking the wrong person. I just arrived in the country. My son was involved in a car accident and I had to look for his medical support outside the country”.

In their letter, the concerned members called on party president to cancel tomorrow’s central committee meeting and postpone it to the 19th of this month.

The party spokesperson Justin Hunyepa said; “It is true we are having party central committee meeting tomorrow, but we cannot share its details. I understand there is a complaint letter but it is an internal party issue. I cannot discuss it with the media”.

Mmegi has learnt that the concerned members are those who do not want the BMD to be part of UDC rather they want UDC to consider working with the new party, Alliance for Progressives.
