The BCP president, Dumelang Saleshando said the media was not an appropriate forum for the BPP to air its reservations regarding his party’s affiliation to the UDC.

“We have a UDC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on the 12th of August. At the meeting, we intend to air our displeasure regarding statements which are said to have been made by some of the BPP leaders against us,” a concerned Saleshando said yesterday.

“I do not want a public exchange with any of our UDC partners.

We would also want them to raise any issue against us internally,” he said.  Late last week, the BPP president, Motlatsi Molapise snubbed a UDC meeting. Some of the reasons advanced for the no show-up were that he did not recognise the BCP as an official partner within the UDC.

The BCP was part of the UDC NEC meeting snubbed by the BPP.

“It's news to us that the BCP is formally under the UDC,” said Molapise in a previous interview with Mmegi.

Molapise said that there is no resolution that was taken to welcome the BCP into the coalition party. BPP youth league leader, Takula Lenyatso also repeated a stance by Molapise in a lengthy social media post.

This week, Molapise would not be drawn into discussing his alleged attack towards the BCP. The relationship between the BPP and the BCP has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. Although both parties are not forthcoming, there is a speculation in political cycles that the two parties do not see eye to eye.

It has been widely reported that the BPP has made demands to be allocated more constituencies in order to trade them to the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD). The relationship between the BCP and the BMD is also reportedly not such a bed of roses.
