Gang stabs man to death

Assistant superintendent Kebonye Kudumane said the deceased met his fate when a group of young men fought him following a misunderstanding.

Apparently the deceased was enjoying drinks with his friend in his car inside the bar premises and the duo in jest would call any woman passing by to join them in the car.

“Unfortunately, it seemed the duo teased the wrong company after calling some certain women who apparently were in the company of the suspected killers. Unknowingly, the deceased passed a harmless joke asking the women who among them would like to go home with him.

“Suddenly the gang started attacking him out of nowhere and one of them stabbed him with a sharp object leading to his death on the spot,” said Kudumane.

He added that the suspected killer amongst the gang is in police custody and will make his court appearance soon.

Kudumane said incidents of this nature are very common in the village noting that since the beginning of the year they have recorded six murder cases.

He said: “Six is a very large number, moreso considering that we are approaching one of the busiest holidays where we will record more of such cases. What troubles us the most is that usually the killers cause death over worthless things that could have been avoided, but due to alcohol there is bound to be poor judgement,” he said.

Meanwhile Kudumane said that they have also recorded three cases of rape over the weekend in which all of the victims were from either bars or clubs.

He said as the police, their efforts to control rape incidents that happen after drinking sprees are in vain and it appears that similar patterns are always used.

“Time and again we advise women to always be accompanied by people they trust, especially the ones that can protect them when such incidents occur, but this never happens.

Some victims go to the extent of leaving the bars with strangers who in turn rape them.

It is therefore unfortunate that despite our efforts to sensitise them, nothing changes,” the police boss said worriedly.
