Last year’s champions, Prisons Boxing Club will look to retain their title.

The club walks into the ring limping due to injuries that have crippled the side. But club manager, Gibson Rauwe is hopeful and believes that the injuries would not deter them from achieving their target.

Atang Mosenke and Mmusi Tswiigi are expected to lead the Warders in the ring. Mosenke spent the past two weeks nursing an upper lip injury after biting himself during the last inter-club competition.  Another wounded boxer is Gillian Ditshwene, who sustained an injury on the nose.

“Mosenke is ready for the national championships. I have been monitoring his injury and it is healing well. However, we would tread carefully and advise him on the technique that he can use to avoid contact on the injured part,” Rauwe said. Tsholofelo boxing club coach, Lechezdani Luza said the National Championships are always full of surprises.

He said the adrenaline is always high and it is difficult to predict winners until after the quarterfinals on Sunday.

“All that is needed to become a national champion is consistency, handwork and focus.

Boxers must rise to the occasion, make sure that their physical fitness is on top level.  They must be psychologically prepared to perform beyond their usual self since this is the nationals where a lot is at stake,” Luza said. Eastern Military Garrison (EMG) boxing club coach, Emmanuel Bravo Galebowe is bubbling with confidence.  He said last year they could have won the championship but unfortunately they ended up in the third spot, because some hands were involved to manipulate the outcome.

“We are going to take what is rightfully ours.  My boxers are ready to take on any opponent.  We are motivated and we are going to bring in a different ball game all together,” Galebowe warned.

The clubs have the likes of Zibani Chikanda (75kg), Kabo Seitshiro (64kg) and Kagiso Ntoti (56kg).

Galebowe said he has been taking his boxers through serious training and he expects them to win gold medals in all the bouts.
