Police bosss daughter granted bail

The state alleges that the Lotlaamoreng Junior Secondary School teacher, on or about April 7 in Goodhope, assaulted one Johnson Kegametswe, a police officer who was on duty and she subsequently hurled insults at him over allegations of ‘disrespecting her car’. On the third count, the state alleges that shortly after the incident, Mogatsaseno stole the keys of a Ford Ranger, which is a government vehicle used by Goodhope police. One Mothibi Sebego, a traffic police officer, also allegedly fell victim on the fateful day after the accused allegedly assaulted the complainant before proceeding to insult him in a bid to anger him.

The prosecution counsel, Lizibo Emang said the state did not object granting the accused a conditional bail looking at the fact that the offence emanates from several months ago. He however, pleaded with the court to set conditions that will deter the accused from interfering with witnesses.

“It is with the court’s discretion to grant the accused bail, but the state has no objection to granting the accused bail looking at the fact that the matter is old. The matter dates as far back as April, hence it is not fresh, but we urge the court to set conditions which will deter the accused person from interfering with the witnesses, influencing them or even intimidating them, especially that they are her acquaintances,” Emang said.

The accused person briefly requested the names of the witnesses. “I need a list of all the witnesses whom I have been instructed not to interfere with.Maybe some of them are my workmates,” Mogatsaseno said.

Magistrate Onkarabile Mokone subsequently granted the accused bail on condition that she should report herself before Goodhope police on every first Monday of each month, refrain from committing any crime, attend all set court schedules and bind herself with a sum of P1,000.

In another matter, Lobatse police state prosecutor, Sergeant Mbaakanyi Nfadiso yesterday informed the court that an autopsy report of one Lesego Phiri, a murder victim allegedly stabbed to death on June 3, is yet to be availed to the police.

Thero Mogatle of Beiruit location in Lobatse is the suspect in the case. State alleges that the accused murdered the deceased in Peleng location on the fateful day.

Nfandiso said police investigations are not yet complete, but the accused person can be released on bail pending the post-mortem report.

“We have not yet received the post-mortem report in this particular case, but the accused person can be granted bail despite the fact that police investigations into the case are still ongoing,” Nfandiso said.
