An improved sponsorship deal has been reached between BTC and BPL

Although BPL acting chief executive officer, Thabo Ntshinogang said the negotiations have not concluded, sources have indicated the two parties have agreed on an extension for further three years.

They have been in relationship since 2008 with an initial P15 million for three seasons. They renewed their partnership for further three years after the conclusion of the first deal with BTC pumping in P24 million. In the just ended deal, BTC had injected P30 million.

Although details of the new deal are still sketchy, sources have revealed that there is an increase once again in the sponsorship.

However, the increase will not affect the prize money, according to sources.

The prize money has been P1 million for the past nine seasons for the winners.  “The increase in sponsorship will be channelled towards grants for the clubs. The idea is that there has to be fair competition in the league and that can be achieved through (improved) grants.

Clubs wanted not only an increment in grants, but also consistency in paying them,” the source told Mmegi Sport.

In the past seasons, clubs have complained about the delay in receiving grants, leading to inconvenience in running their affairs. The league, which was scheduled to start on August 18, is likely to be moved to the following weekend with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) general assembly coming in next week Saturday.
