The visitors’ keeper, Itumeleng Selapa had a tough first half as Ronald Olaki and Mandla Mgadla came knocking from the wings.

While Gunners was unrelenting in attack, Thabo Metlhayotlhe’s poor execution in front of goal meant they failed to find the net in the first half. Forest were forced into an early substitution after Selapa was rushed to hospital with a head injury. Thabo Race took his place. Magoleng were more visible as the half closed out with, Tiro Pheresi and Gofaone Mabaya’s effort unrewarded. The second stanza saw speed added to the game. Forest’s Koketso Majafi coordinated visitor’s efforts at goal, but Katlego Mbise was solid between Gunners’ posts. Gunners’ Kenanao Kgetholetsile and Ofentse Mmipi were introduced with Kudzanai Machazani and Thabo Metlhayotlhe making way respectively.

The home side found the opener in the 60th minute when Mmipi converted a penalty after Mosimanyana Letsholo’s hand landed on the ball.  Fifteen minutes later it was 2-0 after Mgadla’s influence on the wing teed up Kgetholetsile who sent a low shot into the net after a quick counter attack.

Black Forest coach, Reetsang Letlole said his defence was not well coordinated, which cost them the game. “Our approach cost us the game. Our defence was not coordinated hence it became porous. We also went into the game with injuries that also cost us. Our centre back used too much energy to cover for the sidelines. We will sit down and see what we can do to improve,” Letlole said.

His counterpart, Itumeleng Duicker said his team played well and they were fortunate to utilise chances as compared to previous games.

“We always try to play well but we miss chances. Today we managed to utilise them, although we failed to utilise some in the first half. We knew Forest will run a lot, so we used experience, we pressured them when they started getting tired,” Duicker said.
