Kgafela Delighted At Sekai�s Appointment

Bakgatla were on a celebratory mood on Friday as the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane announced that Sekai is cleared to be granted a contract to be Kgafela’s deputy and be their leader in Kgafela’s absence.
Speaking to The Monitor on the sidelines following the meeting, Kgafela’s representative from Moruleng, Mpule Pheto said Kgafela was a delighted man as his wish was granted. “Sekai has Kgafela’s blessings.
He has been in talks with Sekai, the uncles and the government on the issue and he is delighted that it finally happened,” he said. Pheto however said he was not privy to Kgafela’s take on Sekai going to Ntlo ya Dikgosi as morafe requested.
Making the announcement, Tsogwane said the government decided to consider Sekai for the position for which Bakgatla submitted only his name..
“We have decided that Sekai’s name can be considered for the position since his cases before courts have been brought to an end. We have spoken to the uncles and they said Bakgatla wanted Sekai. Today we are here in accordance with Bogosi Act to give morafe an opportunity to rubber stamp the decision and then we will grant Sekai a contract,” he said. Sekai had been charged alongside Kgafela and others for illegal floggings in Mochudi. The charges against Sekai were dropped earlier this year.
Bakgatla could not hide their excitement with all those commenting thanking Tsogwane for what they termed a long overdue decision as they have suffered. They urged Tsogwane to do what he could in his powers to have charges against Kgafela dropped and that his warrant of arrest revoked so that he could come back to his people. Bakgatla also requested that Sekai should then be taken to Ntlo ya Dikgosi (NyD) to represent them.
In response to their plea, Tsogwane revealed that Kgafela and President Ian Khama were in talking terms as they regularly sent each other correspondences. On the issue of dropping charges, Tsogwane said though no one was above the law, he trusted the Attorney General will deal with the matter in a manner it is supposed to be done. On the NyD issue, Tsogwane encouraged morafe to write to the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Eric Molale as it is under his portfolio.
