In an interview with Showbiz, Gokganwang said she decided to take it upon herself to groom talent after not winning many beauty pageants when she was still young.

“I started having a passion for the pageantry from a tender age. I used to take part in beauty pageants but I never won a single title and that broke my heart. When I grew up, I therefore realised that I did not win not because I was not talented. I could not win beauty pageants because I lacked knowledge, skills and support on what was required in such competitions,” she explained.

She said if she had a mentor during her early years in beauty pageants, she is confident that she could have made a mark. The young woman said she came up with the Little Miss Districts beauty pageants concept because she realised it was the only way she could mentor children from all corners of the country.

“I believe this pageantry will help nurture talent of those children that dream to become the future Miss Botswana, Miss Universe or any other prestigious beauty pageants both locally and internationally,” she said confidently.

Gokganwang pointed out that even though this year the pageantry age restriction starts from 10 to 15 years, she intends to reduce the age limit to six years and increase it to 17 years. She said next year, she will divide the pageantry into three categories where there will be Tiny Miss Districts of Botswana whose age limit would range from six to nine years, Little Miss Districts of Botswana aging from 10 to 12 years and Teen Miss Districts of Botswana ranging from 13 to 17 years.

She said in each district, the queen and her two princesses will proceed to the grand finale where they will battle it out with their fellow competitors from other districts.

This year, 13 girls have made it to the Little Miss Districts of Botswana beauty pageant grand finale after outshining their fellow contenders from other districts. The 13 girls will battle it out for the crown on September 2. The event will start from 2pm-6pm at Civic Centre Hall in Gaborone.
