Galaxy lose ground in title chase

With log leaders Township Rollers’ match against Orapa United moved from the weekend to yesterday, Galaxy were presented a perfect opportunity to reduce the gap but suffered a loss in Francistown.

Both Galaxy and Orapa are seen as potential candidates to challenge Rollers for the title but the latter hit a rough patch recently and fired coach, Madinda Ndlovu. Galaxy remained in pursuit but their run suffered a dent against Miscellaneous a fortnight ago before TAFIC stunned them. The gap at the top remained seven points before Rollers took on Orapa United yesterday night. Interestingly, Galaxy’s next fixture is against the log leaders this weekend.

Miscellaneous also lost the opportunity to move closer at the top after being held to a 3-3 draw by Sharps Shooting Stars. Bonolo Frazer became the second player to score three goals this season after Black Forest’s Molaodi Tlhalefang did against Mochudi Centre Chiefs early this season. However his goals were not enough to hand Tse Nala a victory, a week after they lost head coach, Daniel Nare to Orapa United. Miscellaneous remained nine points behind Rollers yesterday before Rollers played Orapa United.

Black Forest’s good run came to an end with a 2-0 loss to Extension Gunners on Saturday, but remained in the top 10 bracket. It was a relief for Gunners supporters who have been sitting on the edge of their seats when the team struggled to record good results early on the season. The important victory saw them make a significant move to position seven on the log standings.

Kenanao Kgetholetsile and Ofentse Mmipi’s experience proved vital as they both came from the bench to score a goal each.

Security Systems also made a significant move up to position five with a victory over Police XI. The Jungle Kings have now conceded eight goals in two consecutive matches, dropping to position 11. The former Premier League champions last season survived relegation in the last day. Chiefs and Gilport Lions shared spoils with their precarious situation remaining the same at the bottom of the league table.

Meanwhile, the match between BDF XI and Uniao Flamengo Santos was called off because of power failure at the Molepolole Sports Complex.
