The artist held a media briefing yesterday at Chez Nicolas (iTowers, CBD) where he said in order to put up with the market he decided to refrain from his old self and ways of doing music.

Matsetse is a recording gospel artist based in Gaborone, Botswana. He has been in the music scene for close to 25 years now and is the writer of hit songs such as This Love, Wena Jesu and Lion of Judah, which caused a shift in the gospel industry, since Lebo Sekgobela, the South African contemporary gospel artist, acquired its rights from the local icon (Matsetse).

The song won her multiple awards, together with the recently released Botswana Pele, a song celebrating Botswana and her achievements since gaining independence in 1966.

“I will be recording my sixth album that will also be my first live recording CD and DVD recording at Sky Lounge on December 02, 2017. As I will be celebrating my 25th anniversary, I decided to rebrand and reinvent myself. I decided to give my fans something different and keep up to standards with the emerging gospel music industry,” he said.

Matsetse said as part of rebranding himself, he chose to host the live recording of Tota Nka Ya Kae, the upcoming album at Sky Lounge because he wanted to host the event at a classy joint that was also intimate and the venue he chose fitted his ideal venue. He however pointed out that he had never hosted a gospel event at the venue before and hoped it would be a success.

“I have also improved in the quality of the sound and others to make the CD and DVD more appealing to the audience. At the live recording, I will be featuring upcoming artists because I know that there are many youngsters looking up to me. I will be featuring upcoming artists such as Glorious Cloud whom I will be doing one song with them, Johnson Pheto who is a talented upcoming gospel artist, a hip hop gospel artist known as Perfect Imagination so that I can be relevant to the youth than in my previous albums where most of my songs attracted a larger group of elders than the youth,” he said.

He also pointed out that there would be five SA artists who have shown interest in seeing the legend who wrote the famous Lion of Judah. However, he said only two of them would be partaking on the live recording. The SA artists include JD Crosson.

He added that he would also be working with Thabang Mnisi, who is one of the big music promoters in SA, and will be using the SA company for recording as they are more skilled in shooting live videos. Matsetse will not be working alone in ensuring that he makes the event a success, as he will be working with a marketing company called Kingdom Brands and an event management company known as Intellize.

The event will start at 7pm till midnight and tickets are sold at P300 normal and P400 VIP. They both include dinner while the VIP ticket also includes front raw seats and other goodies.
