Pilane faction misses letter deadline

This followed a letter of demands served on Pilane faction on July 27, 2017 demanding a response by end of business on July 31, 2017. However, sources claim that the Pilane side has not responded to the letter. 

The two factions have been at war with each other after holding parallel congresses in Bobonong on July 15, 2017, which produced two teams of leaders, each of which claim legitimacy.   

In the letter of demand through their attorney Mboki Chilisa, the Gaolathe faction have threatened to institute legal actions if there is no response by the stated date.

“Kindly let us have a response to this letter by no later than close of business on Monday 31 July 2017, failing which our clients will bring such proceedings as they may advise without further reference to you,” Chilisa said in the letter.

The Gaolathe faction, which claims to be the majority, have demanded that there be an urgent fresh national congress with the assistance of neutral parties to elect valid office bearers as prescribed by the constitution.

“Kindly be advised that in the event that no such agreement should be reached in the very near future, we have been instructed to approach the High Court on an urgent basis for appropriate relief,” read the letter.

It has been reported that the Pilane side has clearly stated that they would not agree to a fresh congress. The Gaolathe’s faction secretary general Phenyo Butale that the other faction has not reponded.
