The initial four died on the spot making Monday’s deceased victim the fifth following the accident that happened between Tonota and Tati Siding.

Of the 10 people that had been hospitalised, only nine survive.

The accident happened when a southbound minibus carrying 14 passengers overturned after the driver allegedly lost control.

Officer commanding No.1 district, superintendent Nkwebi Chilisa confirmed the death yesterday.

The latest victim was recuperating at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) along with nine others said to be in a critical condition.

Chilisa said that the police are still investigating the incident and are yet to establish the exact cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, when addressing a full council meeting more than a month ago Francistown mayor, Sylvia Muzila expressed worry towards accidents that happen along the Francistown-Tonota dual road.

The dual carriage was opened for use in the first half of the year.  She added that since the completion of the dual road more car accidents are being recorded.  She attributed most of the accidents to reckless driving.

Muzila indicated that the dual road had recorded 124 accidents, two of which were fatal, while 11 caused serious injuries to victims.
