Mr Styles, Vee Mampeezy headline Zowa Afro Fest

Arguably the first of its kind in Letlhakane, the event is expected to inject life to the usually quiet village. The event organiser, Tebo Phiri said as a promoter he realised that people in Letlhakane and nearby mining town of Orapa lacked entertainment, as evidenced by their travel to as far places as Francistown and Maun just to have fun, hence he organised the event.

He explained that people are excited and waiting to witness the proceedings more so that it will be the first time for the village to host the event of this magnitude that includes an international artist.

He revealed that the reason they decided to headline the event with the duo is because they are crowd pullers, hence he anticipate people to flock Thakadu Hotel conference centre. Vee has since confirmed that he will perform at the event through his Facebook page. Phiri also revealed that Duma FM radio station will be launching their frequency before the event and they decided to celebrate the after party at this show.

He therefore said the revellers would have a chance to interact with their favourite radio personalities. He explained that he wants the event to be one of the leading social responsibility events, involved in the reduction of poverty and social problems, through the development and upliftment of communities surrounding Letlhakane village, and also to give local artists a platform to grow.

He said it was not an easy task organising the event, as he faced challenges such as securing sponsorship.  He indicated that he is sponsoring the event from his pocket adding that he is happy because everything is under control. “Security will be tight, we have prioritised the safety of our revellers, which is why we engaged a well known security company in Security Systems and well-built bouncers to control the crowd,” he said.

He revealed that he is targeting around 2,500 people to grace the event, adding that people have started buying tickets.

He encouraged those who are yet to buy tickets to get them early at Spar Mall, Thakadu Hotel and Pelko Pub. Phiri, who is also known by his deck name DJ T4, said they intend to hold the event annually.

Thabang Ramokate, affectionately known as Mjamaica to his faithful fans, will be the MC of the night in a line up which includes among others Benny-T, Kaylo, Cued Soul, Mac Blunt and Skems. He stated that gates will be open from 2pm and encouraged people to come early to avoid congestion.
