Following the mysterious passing of BMD founding president, Gomolemo Motswaledi on July 30, 2014, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and the BMD opened an account in which they received funds to institute investigations into his death.

Ever since then, the leadership has been cagey on disbursing information pertaining to the findings, stating that the investigations were complex and that they would revert once they are done.

With the current bickering within the BMD, it would seem like the truth will eventually come out with Pilane stating that he would ensure that whoever is behind the report accounts. “I do not know anything about the report, whether it exists or not. I hope to be briefed about it during the next NEC meeting.

We need to establish who instituted the investigations, who collected the money and how it was used. We need to be different from the ruling party and account to the people,” he said. Still at the press briefing, Pilane stated that he settled the bill of the pathologist who was engaged to perform the investigations to the tune of P16,000.

Party chairman, Nehemiah Modubule revealed that Sedirwa Kgoroba recommended the pathologist who was housed by Pilane.

“After visiting the crime scene with Kgoroba, he recommended the Cape Town-based doctor, stating that he has seen Pilane engage him in some matters. We then contacted Pilane to link us to him, and he chose to sleep over at Pilane’s, instead of our offer of a hotel room, stating that it is where he always stayed while in Botswana.

Pilane was in South Africa at the time, and would later settle the bill,” he said. Secretary general, Gilbert Mangole told the press briefing that they have established that the Ndaba Gaolathe-led faction has intentions of forum shopping ahead of a case they are expected to file in court.

“We know the judge they want to be allocated the case because they believe they will buy him to favour them,” he said.

Quizzed on who the judge was, Pilane said they could not tell the name, but would act on it if the case is allocated to the said judge. The Gaolathe faction threatened to approach court if the Pilane faction refused to allow for a new congress, which they have since rejected.
