Pantsula competition evokes 80s bad memories

The competition attracted multitudes from Gaborone and neighbouring villages.

In an interview with Mmegi, Naledi Police Station commander, superintendent King Tshebo said they received the murder report on Sunday morning around 6:21am.

“We received a phone call from someone who was woken by the duo’s quarrels. Our informant told us that when checking through the window she found the deceased lying on the ground and alerted the police about the incident.

On arrival we found the Molepolole man who was doing second year at Botho University lying in a pool of blood. It appears that the deceased was stabbed with something sharp,” Tshebo said.

He stated that the man was certified dead upon arrival at Princess Marina Hospital.

“We are in a manhunt for Tiroyamodimo Mokgatle popularly known as ‘Joster’ in Old Naledi suspected to be accused person in this matter. Our investigations have revealed that the duo were seen arguing and ended up leaving the hall together still arguing hence suspecting that Mokgatle might be behind the deceased’s death,” Tshebo said.

Tshebo said that since the incident Mokgatle is nowhere to be found. He pleaded with members of the public to help locate the suspect and contact or report to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile the police are investigating a rape case, which occurred on Saturday early morning around 3am in which a 23 year-old woman was raped in Old Naledi location.

Tshebo revealed that the complainant could not identify the suspects because the room was dark.

In a different matter, Naledi police are investigating another rape case, which occurred on Sunday.

“In this matter the 27-year-old woman was raped by a known man after they met at a local bar that night. The complainant told the police that after entertaining each other at the bar, the suspect dragged her to his house in the same location where he raped her,” Tshebo said.

Tshebo said they were concerned by high consumption of alcohol and the use of sharp objects in his policing area.

“From June to date I have recorded three murder cases and alcohol was at the centre of the dispute.

In the first incident, a nephew hit and killed his uncle with a stone at a shebeen.

In the second case the duo were fighting over alcohol … and in this recent incident they were seen together drinking alcohol at the pantsula dance competition,” Tshebo said.
