Man perishes in car crash

Confirming the accident, Palapye police traffic officer, inspector Ntshosane Rammapodi said the accident was reported to them in the late hours of Saturday near the Sediba sa Poo (Artificial Insemination Unit).   He disclosed that the Camry was heading to Palapye while the truck was heading to Serowe.  “According to police investigations, the Camry driver who was alone in the car was heading to Palapye where he originates and the truck driver was also alone.

Unfortunately, the 33-year-old Camry driver lost his life on the spot while the truck driver sustained serious injuries,” he said.  Rammapodi further said the truck driver was immediately rushed to Palapye Primary Hospital where he was later transferred to Mahalapye Hospital due to some fractures he sustained.

He is still hospitalised there in a fight for his life.  Though Rammapodi said the police have not yet established what might have caused the accident, he said it was a head-on collision. He added that they suspect that one driver might have gotten out of his lane because it was in the late hours hence the head-on collision.

“We cannot disclose the main cause of the incident, but we are suspicious that one of the drivers might have been using a wrong lane thinking that there won’t be another car coming since it was late. However, what I can say for now is that our investigations are still ongoing on the matter to establish what might have been the cause of the collision,” he said.
