According to FRAFA chairperson, Maokaneng Bontshetse the regional association approved two motions during their assembly held at the Francistown Civic Centre on June 11.

The two motions are on increased powers for the sitting president and the other is a motion appealing for a division of the region.  The two motions have since been forwarded to the BFA.

“I don’t see how we will call for the presidential powers to be increased and at the same time plot to take the president down,” he said.

“As FRAFA, we fully support the president and we have trust in his leadership. We believe Maclean (Letshwiti) is the right man for the top post and all he needs is more powers so that he can have the final say on a lot of issues.”

“We strongly refute the reports peddled about us.  We cannot carry a motion outside the agenda of the assembly. The constitution does not allow for that.”

“The only other motion from our part is a request to divide our region, which we feel is too broad and could become ungovernable with a number of clubs coming up.”

FRAFA will be represented at the assembly by the chairperson and his secretary, Isaac Mabutha.  The assembly is billed for August 12, 2017 in Gaborone.

Meanwhile, Bontshetse said FRAFA is in talks with a new sponsor for the Francistown Independence Cup.  Last year, BOT50 sponsored the cup.

He said the sponsorship is in the region of P85,000.  All the clubs across all divisions in the city will take part in the cup that is played in a FA format.

“We are in advanced talks with the sponsor for our independence cup and we hope to conclude and launch the sponsorship very soon.”

The clubs in the lower leagues are expected to resume the cup games by the second week of August.
