Local arts groups groom talent

The groups decided to join hands and come up with initiatives that would promote, grow and help local talents to be self sufficient. According to one of the events coordinators, Gabriel Modise, who has been in the theatre industry for years, they came up with Makgaolakgang Theatre Charity Challenge so that they could raise funds and give back to the arts community.

“Its objectives are to promote the growth of performing arts in Botswana. Recently, we held drama and comedy categories during this kind of event. The groups that fought for the titles in their respective categories includes Dops Baipidi Of Ikakanyeng vs Thembeni Mpapho of Tsedikgolo House of Theatre and Mawee vs Penene Pononk from Selibe-Phikwe. Dops Baipidi walloped Thembeni to win the semi finals of this year’s competition. Dops will meet Andrew Kola of Mophato in a date to be communicated early next year,” he said. Makgaolakgang Promotions, together with the winning group and Maitisong office would then conduct training for free to the beneficiaries. The money raised is used for travelling and logistics to during these trainings. According to Modise the winning group, together with the organising team, selects beneficiaries.
