On arrival at the suspect’s yard at White City location in Gaborone, Mmegi found an apopletic  mob eagerly waiting for the suspect to be taken out of the house, as they wanted to take the law into their hands.

The livid crowd could be heard murmuring amongst themselves, saying that the suspect should be taught a lesson he will never forget.

The mob was also angry with the police, accusing them of blocking them from grabbing him by the scruff of his neck and meting out instant justice. Apparently, to the chagrin of the mob, the police had driven their car into the yard and managed to scurry the suspect to safety.

Urban police station commander, superintendent Obapotswe Moremi confirmed the incident saying the mother reported her child as missing in the early hours of yesterday.

“Whilst the mother was still narrating what transpired, the police received yet another report from members of the public to the effect that something like a child was seen lying on the street, still in White City.

The police rushed to the scene and found the little girl’s body in its blood-soaked clothes,” Moremi said. He said that the body was rushed to Princess Marina Hospital where the girl was certified dead on arrival.

He said there were  disturbing injuries that raised suspicions of raped. Moremi revealed that the girl’s mother told them that she left her two children, the deceased and her younger sibling sleeping on Tuesday evening and went to the bar and on return, early in the morning she realised the deceased was missing.

“Our investigations have revealed that the suspect is the former step-dad to the deceased because he was once in a love relationship with the little girl’s mother and they broke up recently,” Moremi said.
