This comes after the two factions one led by Sydney Pilane and the other by Ndaba Gaolathe claim legitimacy following parallel congresses they held in Bobonong recently.

The Modubule faction has shot down attempts by the Gaolathe faction to have another congress held. BMD secretary general, Gilbert Mangole said they will not hold another congress as they held a proper congress as opposed to the Gaolathe faction.

“We received a letter dated July 27 from their lawyers, Collins Chilisa Attorneys giving us up to July 31 to respond, or they would seek legal action. In the letter, they state that since some people who were supposed to be delegates were not allowed into Matshekge, therefore the congress was unlawful and they want to nullify it,” he said.

Mangole said Gaolathe’s faction also state in the letter that they held a properly constituted congress at Bobonong Secondary School.

Mangole said the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting they held on Saturday resolved that there won’t be any other congress. “We will respond to the letter. There is nobody who was denied entry into the congress venue. The congress at Matshekge was lawful and we shall not hold any other congress. They are free to go to court,” he said.

Mangole said they were to discuss how they were going to proceed to stop Gaolathe and his team from claiming to be legitimate BMD leaders, but then the letter changed the agenda of their meeting.

The Gaolathe faction secretary general, Phenyo Butale was last week quoted stating that they believe a congress observed by an independent party is the only solution to their problem.

Political analyst, Leonard Sesa recently told The Monitor sister paper, Mmegi that the two parties were reluctant to seek intervention through the courts as they both had their flaws.
