Phikwe Resumes Trade Show

The town could not sustain the show over the years and it eventually collapsed in 2003. This time around, SPEDU and SPTC have joined efforts and are providing a facilitating role in execution of this year’s show. Preparations are well underway for the event that will be held from August 7-12 at the showground that is currently being refurbished. This includes maintenance of stalls, kraals and reconnection of electricity. According to the show committee spokesperson, Connie Mase, the town is currently under a revitalisation strategy that seeks to resuscitate the economy post closure of the BCL Mine. The show therefore forms part of the continuous strategies implored to promote regional economic activities and various products and services from the SPEDU region.

“Selebi-Phikwe Trade and Exhibition Show sums up the three main shows from the region being Tswapong North, Bobonong and Mmadinare,” she said. The show is held under the theme: ‘Economic Revitalisation through Diversification’. Mase said that the show seeks to attract exhibitors from all sectors of the economy as well as government and parastatals and private companies from the region and nationally. She said the diversity of the sectors is expected to attract revellers from diverse fields.

The show is not only an opportunity to bring back life to the town through recreation and expositions but it is also for the region to sell its proposition to potential investors through marketing of services and products.
