Yesterday, close sources said that the move is meant to counter a meeting organised by the other BMD faction led by Sidney Pilane. Both factions are claiming to be the rightful owners of the BMD.

Members of a NEC led by Gaolathe’s team have been divided accordingly to address the 12 regions across the country.

The announcement of the weekend tour comes days after another BMD faction led by Pilane announced that it will hold a meeting in Gaborone.

Pilane’s faction has indicated that one of the items on the agenda of their meeting would be to discuss how Ndaba’s faction can be stopped from undertaking activities using the BMD name.

In a battle to gain control of the BMD each of the two factions elected a leadership committee recently in Bobonong.

Insiders in the Gaolathe faction also said that three items would be on the agenda during the weekend countrywide meetings.

The first item on the agenda would be to give members detailed information of what transpired in Bobonong.

Members are also reportedly expected to lobby Gaolathe to push for a fresh elective congress that would be supervised by the opposition coalition the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

Alternatively, those closer to the BMD activities also stated that there is a possibility that members from Ndaba’s faction would also explore the possibility of forming a new party.

Opinion is reportedly very divided as to whether Gaolathe’s faction should form a new party or not.Last week, there was heightened speculation that Gaolathe’s faction has resolved to form a new party with a view to seeking admission into the UDC. The Ndaba faction claims to enjoy the backing of the masses.

Yesterday, Phenyo Butale the secretary general in Gaolathe’s faction indicated that his party would not discuss much on the agenda of the meeting.

“Because of the prevailing circumstances (infighting within the BMD) we need to be constantly in touch with our members.

We have long planned our meeting before the other faction announced its gathering. We are not countering them as alleged,” Butale said.

Butale added that during the countrywide tour ,members are expected to recommend ways that can help the BMD regain stability.

“I cannot comment on the speculation regarding what may happen at the weekend meeting because I do not know where that comes from,” Butale noted. Both factions have submitted reports of their elective congresses to the UDC.
