Inmates In Prison Rape

This came to the fore recently when Daniel Mxolisi Thandazela (26) appeared in court for allegedly raping another inmate.

He allegedly raped his victim on September 13 at the Francistown Centre for Illegal Immigrants (FCII), which is also used as a prison facility since the Francistown State Prison is still under construction. Thandazela is already serving a 10-year sentence for rape.

Thandazela pleaded not guilty to the charge, and told Magistrate Kaveri Kapeko that he will defend himself in the matter.

The court heard that Thandazela asked the complainant whether he had ever had sex to which the complainant replied in the negative.

He then said: “Well I am going to show you how sex is done. Take off your clothes.” By that moment, the court also heard that the complainant, who was visibly shaking because of what was about to befall him, obliged. Thandazela then inserted his horny manhood into the anus of the complainant.

The following day, the complainant told the prison officers what had happened to him the previous night leading to a case of rape to be opened against Thandazela.

Surprisingly, the court granted Thandazela bail on condition that he entered into his own recognisance of P500, does not interfere with State witnesses and appears in court whenever required to do so. The State will call four witnesses to testify against Thandazela.

Trial dates have been set for August 13 and 14 next year.
