The project dubbed Next Best Female DJ Competition will first have the women audition this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at Next Best DJ Academy in Broadhurst where a certain number will be shortlisted for the two-month bootcamp.  The academy is a deejaying institution established by radio host and disc jockey, DJ Izzy.

“The main focus right now is to help female DJs grow and develop their skills in a professional set up that is safe for them and also help their dreams come true,” DJ Izzy said.

He noted that during the auditions a task will be demonstrated for the aspiring DJs and they will be asked to do the same as they will also go through different audition tasks to be shortlisted.

Upon getting shortlisted the aspiring DJ will go through bootcamp at the institution learning various theory and practical deejaying skills and techniques. DJ Izzy noted that after the two-month period there will be elimination round till they reach a certain number of people who will then compete against each other.

The winner is set to walk away with P10,000, a one-year management contract and three months’ residency at a premium venue in Gaborone. A panel of female DJs and media personalities will be standing in as judges.

The Next Best Female DJ Competition is the first part of a four phase project that Next Best DJ Academy is working on to develop the deejaying industry.

The three other phases are yet to be mentioned.  DJ Izzy noted some aspiring DJs have already registered for the auditions.

This initiative comes at a time when the country has a very low count of female DJs with a few notable ones such as DJ Cupid and Lady K.
