She said the tournament is organised by ASD Montegranaro, which is the governing body of the Women European Softball Cup.

She said this was due to the team performance locally and internationally. “Being a new team and having won a bronze medal at the Selebi-Phikwe Extravaganza tournament and silver medals at the Vaal University tournament in South Africa is a great achievement. It is worth noting that Titans is the first African team to participate in this cup,” she said.

Ramolapong said their preparations are at an advanced stage. She added that the team had a friendly game with South Africa Under-19 team who are also preparing for the World Championship in USA. She said the mood in the camp is very high and the team is raring to go in Italy. She said the team’s fitness levels are high and there are no injury concerns. She further said the team has a robust training regime to cater for the different climatic conditions in Italy. She said there will be six countries participating in the Women European Championship, including Croatia, Great Britain and the host Italy.  Concerning sponsorship, Ramolapong said there are a few companies that have come on board.

“Dlala is sponsoring us with team apparel, Yarona FM has given us a weekly slot to update our supporters on progress. We have also been sponsored with travel insurance,” said Ramolapong.  She said this is an opportunity that will expose players to international standards that will prepare them for other bigger tournaments and national team.

She further said it is not all the time that a new team gets to play at international level. She added that being a youth team their aim is to develop the girl child. She added that this could bring them closer to the international scouts. Ramolapong was optimistic that the team will bring the championship home. Malebogo Ramaphane, the team captain said as a leader she is excited to lead Titans into the tournament. Ramaphane said she believes the team has what it takes to bring the trophy home.
