Prosecutor, Inspector Oamogetswe Gaboutlwelwe yesterday told Broadhurst Magistrates’ Court that they were in the process of referring the docket to the Directorate for Public of Prosecutions (DPP) for possible prosecution.

“We have received the post-mortem results of both the deceased.  Our investigations are about to be completed.  We will be handing over the case to DPP for assessment and possible prosecution,” Gaboutlwelwe said. Meanwhile, Magistrate Gaseitsewe Tonoki denied the accused bail, agreeing with the prosecution’s submissions that the accusedwas not a bail candidate because he faced serious charges.

Gaboutlwelwe who was standing in for the substantive prosecutor, Onkemetse Modukanele,  in this matter, had submitted that the accused should not be granted bail because he was a flight risk.

“Looking at the charges he is facing, if given bail, the accused may not come to court so that he does not stand trial,” she said.

She also said the accused should not be granted bail as irate family members of the deceased were baying for his blood.

Gaboutlwelwe further said that, even more, the accused could also commit suicide, as he is aware of the gravity of the offences he has committed.

However, the accused dismissed suggestions that there is threat to his life by members of the deceased’s family, as he has a place to stay, which is safe. He also said there are no chances that he would run away as he was arrested at his home.

It is said that on Independence Day this year, Phadisa murdered Bembe Magosi and Gomolemo Motladile, a mother and her daughter, at Phiring location in Broadhurst, Gaborone by stabbing them to death with a knife.  It is alleged that Phadisa was in a love relationship with Motladile.
