The project was funded by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Grand Slam Development Fund for P150,000.

BTA spokesperson, Shelton Benzah had previously told Mmegi Sport that they were in the process of recalling the contractor who is based in Zimbabwe.

By yesterday, Benzah said the decision to recall the contractor still stands.

“There should be a deadline on when the contractor should be back on site, but that falls under the portfolio of the BTA secretary general and we expect a report in our next meeting in August,” he said. According to information reaching Mmegi Sport, the BTA executive has not discussed the issue of recalling the contractor. The previous administration has been blamed for the contract mess. One of the former players, Emmanuel Mabechu criticised the workmanship, saying it was a below par job.

“I feel like they have not done anything but rather they just poured cement on the courts and repainted the lines. The situation was turned from bad to worse because you cannot even tell if these are clay or hard surface courts,” he said. Mabechu said in the eyes of somebody who does not understand how tennis courts should look like, they appear appealing. He said it is a risk for players to continue using the courts under the current conditions.

“Comparing these courts to Notwane courts, I give Phikwe 3/10,” Mabechu said.
